Major expansion coming to AU animation program

Augusta University plans to expand its animation program to include an additional 21 faculty members in the Department of Art and Design, which will make it possible to attract about 400 more animation students in the coming years.

What began in 2006 as a small, thoughtful partnership between Augusta University’s College of Nursing and Layman Nurseries has blossomed into a 20-year tradition of care. For two weeks this summer, April Hartman, MD, the division chief of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, and Melanie Kitchens O’Meara, PhD, an associate professor of performance studies in the Department of Art and Design, worked with members of Theatre AUG and local middle school students to teach them dramatic acting skills in order to become pediatric standardized patients for mock appointments with medical students.
