Augusta University plans to expand its animation program to include an additional 21 faculty members in the Department of Art and Design, which will make it possible to attract about 400 more animation students in the coming years.

Augusta University alumnus Rafy Bassali, who is the owner of the local boutiques The Swank Company and Posh Tots along with the outdoor gear store, Escape Outdoors, began buying a number of vacant commercial properties in downtown Augusta in 2010. He now owns more than 30 properties in the Augusta area.
