Renovations made to Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home

Construction crews recently completed renovations on the fifth floor at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. New beds, bedside cabinets, wardrobes, flooring, artwork and other amenities are part of the home-like improvements that were made to enhance person-centered care at the award-winning facility. Dedicated in 1969, the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home was the first of its kind in the nation to be built with financial grant assistance from the federal government.

The patient care team at the facility provides medical, skilled nursing and professional therapy services to Georgia’s disabled and chronically ill veterans who have served in the armed forces during war times, accommodating about 150 veteran men and women. It is operated under an interagency agreement between the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and Augusta University, making it a rich teaching environment for medical, dental, pharmacy and allied health students to gain practical experience in caring for the disabled and elderly.

Work has begun on the fourth floor resident rooms, then will move to three, and finally to the second floor. It takes about six to eight months to make the renovations on each floor, which means the project likely will take about two years overall.
