April HR Workforce Development Courses Spotlight!

HR Workforce Development is pleased to offer the following exciting training opportunities for April:

Professional Business Writing: Writing With Purpose – April 14 (1 – 4 p.m.) Summerville Campus – JSAC (Coffee House)

Business writing has evolved dramatically in our fast-paced, technologically-savvy culture. It is extremely critical in the business environment that our writing is effective and clear, but also displays our confidence as professionals. In this session, participants will apply the principles of clear, precise, effective communication to various forms of writing—from everyday emails to sensitive letters and formal reports. The interactive presentation format makes learning stylistic issues fun—and not a chore. The session mixes discussion with small group exercises and individual work.

Retirement Strategies for Women (Presented by VALIC)

This session will encompass strategies and methods for women in today’s business environment for overcoming financial hurdles in planning and investing for the future. This is ideal for those who recognize the importance of having a personal plan, a sound strategy and a consistent approach to saving.  The target audience for this session is the GRU and GRHealth female population.  Session times/locations below:

FISH! (Catch the Energy) – April 23 (2 – 4:30 p.m.) Summerville Campus – JSAC (Butler Meeting Room)

Imagine a workplace where everyone chooses to bring energy, passion, and a positive attitude with them each day. That’s the FISH! Philosophy, an environment in which people are truly connected to their work, to their colleagues and to their customers. Impossible? Not at all.

FISH! is the story of Seattle’s World Famous Pike Place Fish Market- a shop full of fishmongers spending their grueling, stinky, 12-hour shifts stocking, selling, and packing fish. Typically, it would be the last place you’d look for great customer service, but in this incredible work environment they use the FISH! Philosophy, employees don’t just fill orders, they fill people – with fun, friendliness, attentiveness, and enthusiasm.

The bottom line? FISH! is creating a new reality that won’t only change the way you think of work- it might just change your entire view on life.

MGT. Training Series (Session 2): Coaching to Improve Performance Through Engagement and Reconnection – April 30 (1 – 4 p.m.) Greenblatt Library (AB 0108)

As a manager, just how effective are you at engaging others and in coaching others to be the best they can be? Part of being an effective manager and coach, is to be able to develop and engage others so that they will want and desire to be a part of your team. Telling others what to do is easy compared to engaging them in a process where they are in control and are thinking through solutions to their own challenges.

This second session in the Management Training Series will provide a practical approach to help managers understand the importance of engagement and in helping employees to reconnect in the work environment through effective coaching. Participants will engage in interactive activities to promote thought and to gain insight as to how to become a more powerful and engaging coach.
