Dr. Erica Louden, second-year reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellow at Augusta University, was one of five fellows to be awarded the prestigious Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI) Award to attend the Fellows Education Day at the Oncofertility Consortium Conference and present her research.
The Oncofertility Consortium Conference is a multidisciplinary international meeting of oncologists, reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialists, basic and translational research scientists, social worker, lawyers and fertility preservation advocacy groups.
It is designed to facilitate networking, education and resource sharing in the new field of oncofertility and fertility preservation discovery, ethics and methods for reproductive age patients, adolescent and young adults who face loss of fertility function due to cancer and/or disorders required chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
Louden was selected to present her research with Dr. Larisa Gavrilova-Jordan highlighting the only oncofertility consortium participating program in the Southeast region, “Single Versus Combined Onco-Fertility Methods in Reproductive Age Females Prior to Cancer Treatment.”
The Augusta University oncofertility program was started in September 2014 and since then has helped many men and women of reproductive age to preserve their fertility while undergoing cancer treatment. Cancer survivors have been returning to the AU oncofertility program to utilize their cryopreserved embryos and gametes to become parents.
