Watch: Senate Bill 166 could help with local nurse shortage

The greater CSRA is, like many rural areas in Georgia, experiencing a shortage of nurses. To make up the difference and ensure local families get the care they deserve, area hospitals would need to hire around 700 more nurses. It’s a serious problem, but Dr. Lucy Marion, dean of the College of Nursing, thinks a new Georgia bill allowing nurses to carry and use a single nursing license across state lines may be the first step toward a solution.

“The biggest problem that this will fix will be to remove that barrier of mobility so that nurses can move from state to state and take their services beyond the state,” Marion said.
