Pediatric patients and their siblings dressed as superheroes, firemen, Disney characters, witches, insects, and donned other Halloween apparel as they made their way through the floors of the Children’s Hospital of Georgia and a couple of floors in the Medical Office Building, making about 80 stops along the route to trick-or-treat on Friday, Oct. 30.
“This is a really great way for kids who have to be here in the hospital during the holiday to be able to participate in some Halloween fun,” said Stephanie Grayson, a Child Life Specialist at CHOG. “We want to make their stay here as pleasant as possible, and this gets them away from the medicine and treatments for awhile so that they can just enjoy being kids.”
More than 45 participants went door-to-door and floor-to-floor collecting bags and buckets of candy, treats, books and other prizes. A group of nursing students carried bags and trick-or-treated for patients who could not leave their rooms and in anticipation for new patient admissions to the hospital over the weekend.
“It’s one of the most fun things we do here with our patients, and we love to make them smile,” Grayson said.
