Social entrepreneurship, a business model that endeavors to create employment opportunities, income and profit is growing in popularity.
Dr. William Hatcher, Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Master of Public Administration, co-authored a recently published research study that examines the impact of social entrepreneurship on a small community in Peru.
Nisolo, a high-end shoe company based in Trujillo, Peru, translates to “not alone” in English. This name serves as a constant reminder to the citizens of Trujillo that they are not alone. Nisolo’s production facility hires local workers and distributes its profits to the community.
Hatcher’s research revealed that Nislo is positively impacting an estimated 400 individual in Trujillo.
“By providing consistent employment, fair wages, health care, livelihood, training, and a saving and salary advance program, Nisolo is not only focusing on driving social change, but on creating a sustainable model that highlights potential fashion industry changes,” Hatcher’s research explains.
“Social Entrepreneurship in Trujillo, Peru: The Case of Nisolo,” was published on April, 19, 2018, in Community Development.
