Deadline extended for CHOG/News 12 music video song selection

Two years ago, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia erupted to Katy Perry’s “Firework.” Last year, the hallways echoed with “Roar.” This year, the kids need your help in selecting the next song to perform for the news cameras.

According to Catherine Stewart, Development Officer for CHOG and the Children’s Miracle Network, the annual music video, filmed and produced by WRDW News 12, is something everyone looks forward to, especially the kids.

“They love it,” she said. “We just put on the music really loud, and if they know the lyrics, they sing. If not, they just dance. But everyone has a great time with it.”

According to Stewart, early favorites for this year’s song are Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” and Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” though she stressed it’s not simply a popularity vote. Because the video involves the Children’s Hospital, there are obviously several considerations when choosing a song.

While the suggestion period was originally scheduled to close at the end of the month, Stewart has extended the deadline to make sure to collect as many recommendations as possible. Now, suggestions can be made at the CHOG Facebook page through Monday, April 6.

Once the song is chosen, Stewart will meet with News 12. Filming is planned for July, with the video rolling out sometime in early August, both on News 12 and internally.

The GReport will continue to chronicle the process.
