“A club like this is essential to introducing girls at a young age to these topics because it will increase their confidence,” says Michael Nowatkowski, PhD.
“The experience at Augusta University was transformative, and I didn’t even recognize it at the time,” says Gary Dennis.

Former Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal discussed the inspiration behind his first children’s book, “Veto, The Governor’s Cat," that he wrote in of honor his late wife, Sandra Deal, who championed literacy throughout her lifetime.

“I think moms really like that there’s kind of a sense of community with the program, and that they’re being plugged into resources,” said Lily Rubin.

In becoming so closely connected to Paulette Harris, PhD, Steve Ruby couldn’t help but get immersed in the Augusta University Literacy Center.
“The ability to provide a service that impacts both the short- and long-term health of our community members is a gift," said Beth NeSmith, PhD.
“The intent of the camp was to really inspire them to want to learn more about the topic and to continue learning and get educated about the topic further in life."
"We need community partners, and community partners mean that it’s not just mutually beneficial, but it’s mutually respectful."
