Augusta University celebrates Homecoming 2023 with week of events

Augusta University’s Student Life and Engagement team is kicking off Homecoming Week 2023 with several free events for students to show their Jaguar pride.

Flashing Lights: Homecoming Kickoff Fireworks Show and Prada & Pancakes: Late Night Brunch

To kick off homecoming week, the Flashing Lights: Homecoming Kickoff Fireworks Show will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 at the amphitheater on AU’s Summerville Campus.

A live DJ will play music, along with glow-in-the-dark giveaways for students, a reveal of student organizations’ homecoming-themed banners and an introduction of the homecoming court.

Followed by the fireworks show, a high-end brunch called “Prada & Pancakes” will take place on the Summerville Campus in the Dr. Roscoe Williams Ballroom in the Jaguar Student Activities Center.

Homecoming court elections

The Augusta University 2023 homecoming court elections will be accepted starting Monday, Feb. 20 and ending at 11:59 p.m. Feb. 23. The election link will be sent to students through their Augusta University email.

All students are encouraged to vote.

I’m So Fancy: Homecoming Hangout

From 2-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 at the Dental College Field on the Health Sciences Campus, students will receive the official homecoming T-shirt and indulge in good food.

This event is an opportunity for students to meet and show their Jaguar fashion on the runway.

Strike a Pose: Candidate Cookout

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Jaguar Student Activities Center patio on the Summerville Campus, students will visit the homecoming candidates’ tables, enjoy grilled food and capture the day with pictures at the photo booths.

Jaguar’s Groove: Jaguar Mania

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre on Summerville Campus, student organizations will compete and show off their dance moves at the official homecoming dance competition, Jaguar Mania.

Vogue: Homecoming dance and crowning of duke and duchess

At 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Dr. Roscoe Williams Ballroom in the JSAC on the Summerville Campus, students will dance the night away in style at the homecoming dance.

The official 2023 Homecoming duke and duchess will be crowned at this event.

Jaguar Nation: Homecoming game and Release the Crown: Crowning of homecoming king and queen

At 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Christenberry Fieldhouse, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will rally for their homecoming win against Clayton State University.

The women’s basketball team will play at 1:30 p.m. The men’s basketball team will play at 3:30 p.m. The official 2023 homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game. Winners of the “Pass the Paw” student organization competition will also be announced.

Step Afrika!

At 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 at Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre on Summerville Campus, Step Afrika! will give a performance to end the homecoming celebration with a bang.

Step Afrika! is the first professional stepping company that pays homage to historically African-American fraternities and sororities, traditional African dances and a variety of contemporary dance and art.

Pass the Paw competition

From Sunday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 25, the Jaguar Production Crew, student organizations and AU leadership invite Greek organizations and registered student organizations to enter a friendly competition called Pass the Paw. The competition encourages students to participate in all events that have been planned for the historically spirited homecoming week.
