Dr. Jose Vazquez, chief of the Division of Infectious Disease, spoke with WRDW about how people living with raw sewage can be in danger of infectious diseases.
“People living with sewage back-up especially in their homes are at risk of Hepatitis A,” Vazquez said. “Bacteria can splash on you clothes or permeate through the skin.”
Vazquez tells how sewage backup is not only an issue locally but also around the country. “At least 10 million people are exposed to raw sewage,” Vazquez said. “Out of those at least 10 percent get infected frequently.”
