Update on Hurricane Florence

Updated 2:04 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14: 

As Hurricane Florence slowly moves through the Carolinas, the latest forecasts show the Augusta area will not experience tropical force winds or rain as initially anticipated. However, we are still expected to receive between one to two inches of rain and winds throughout the weekend.

Operations at the university and medical center will go on as scheduled, but updates will be available at Jagwire in the event conditions worsen.

Current forecasts indicate that tropical force winds and rain are not expected for our area. While we are projected to receive between two and five inches of rain and winds tonight and into this weekend, we do not anticipate disruption to our campus or clinical activities.

With Hurricane Florence rapidly approaching the coastline, we are monitoring weather conditions closely to ensure the safety of our employees, patients and students.  

For now, operations on all of our campuses, including classes and clinical activities, will continue as normal.  As a reminder, all health system employees are considered essential personnel and are encouraged to begin making preparations in the event of worsening weather conditions. Be sure to check JagWire and the AU Health News App regularly for updates.

Updated 6:57 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10: 

Augusta University is closely monitoring Hurricane Florence. Current models suggest that major storm impact to the Augusta area is highly unlikely. Our Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response is collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure we are well positioned to support those coastal counties who may be impacted.

Augusta University and AU Health are operating on a normal schedule and do not anticipate any deviation from that schedule as a result of this storm.

As the storm moves closer to landfall, updates will be shared through Jagwire.
