The state’s dental school to become The Dental College of Georgia

The following email was sent to the GRU community by President Brooks Keel

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that as part of our institution’s overall rebranding, the College of Dental Medicine will be renamed The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.

After our name change from Georgia Regents to Augusta University was announced, Dean Carol Lefebvre was approached by students, faculty and alumni requesting the dental college name change. Subsequently, members of our leadership team held several meetings with dental medicine constituents to seek their input.

This particular name was proposed not only because it is an accurate reflection of the college’s singular status as the state’s only dental school — public or private — but it also aligns with the names of two of the university’s other units, the Medical College of Georgia and Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

We believe the similar naming convention will allow us to leverage the branding and marketing of all three of these important Augusta University assets to the greatest benefits for our state and that this identification adds important recognition and reputational value nationally.

The new name will take effect Dec. 1 — the same date as the university’s legal name change from Georgia Regents to Augusta University. The college’s new word mark and logo will be developed as part of the overall branding of Augusta University.

Sincerely,

Brooks A. Keel, PhD

President
