Syfan Logistics recognized with prestigious AU President’s Award

Augusta University Russell T. Keen recognized Syfan Logistics and the Syfan family with Augusta University’s 2025 President’s Award – the university’s highest honor – during a special luncheon at the Maxwell Alumni House on Oct. 10.

“It is an honor to present my first President’s Award to Syfan Logistics and the Syfan family,” Keen said. “In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Syfan Logistics, the Syfan family and their entire organization stepped up in a tremendous way for our university, our students, our faculty, our staff, our community and beyond.”

After the storm crippled the Augusta area, including the Augusta University campuses, leaving the community without power, potable water and fresh food, Syfan Logistics rallied its Gainesville, Georgia, community to donate supplies for Augusta and other areas hit by the hurricane.

“It’s second nature for us and our team members to respond to disasters like Hurricane Helene,” said Jim Syfan, CEO of Syfan Logistics, who also serves the University System of Georgia on the Board of Regents. “God has been good to us, and he lets us be stewards of his company and his money, and this compels us to share it with our community and with people in need.”

“We live in a community that is absolutely awesome, so when we put the word out that there is a need, it doesn’t matter where the need is, this community pulls together and sends the things that we can ship to other locations,” said Greg Syfan, president of Syfan Logistics, who runs the family business with his dad Jim and brother Steve. “We are just one element of that, and that’s the trucking element. We sent clothes, food, water, generators, tools – almost anything you could think of for an event like this.”

A few days after the initial supplies arrived in Augusta, the team at Syfan also procured and transported a truckload of frozen chicken tenders to the AU community, including Wellstar MCG Health employees and their families. In addition, Keen put Steve Syfan in touch with representatives at the nonprofit Golden Harvest Food Bank, which led to a delivery of more than 20 pallets of frozen chicken to help feed more families across the greater Augusta area.

“It was a blessing to get to talk about our faith and how the Lord took something very difficult and gave us the opportunity to help in a small way,” said Steve Syfan, executive vice president of Syfan companies. “We love giving local, and Augusta is pretty local in the scheme of things.”

“At a time when Augusta University faced immense challenges, the Syfan family, Syfan Logistics and their entire community stepped forward with unwavering generosity. Their support extended beyond our students, faculty and staff; it uplifted our entire community. Their commitment to service and compassion exemplifies the very spirit of community stewardship that strengthens institutions and transforms lives,” Keen said.
