In the News: New blood pressure guidelines will affect 30 million people

After the American Heart Association released new blood pressure guidelines, doctors were quick to stress the importance of preventative care. The four major changes in the guidelines will affect 30 million more people.

“It is a global epidemic. This isn’t something that affects a handful of people. Anybody above 130 they [the American Heart Association] refer to as now stage one high blood pressure, and anybody over 140, systolic blood pressure, they refer to as stage two,” said Sean Javaheri, associate program director of the Cardiology Fellowship program at the Medical College of Georgia.
