The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2027-28 award year, and submitting early gives students the best chance of receiving available financial aid. Students who need additional guidance or have questions about the process can contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships for assistance.

Plan Ahead: Complete the 2027-28 FAFSA early

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2027-28 award year for students planning to attend college between July 1, 2027 and June 30, 2028. With a priority deadline of May 1, 2027, submitting the FAFSA early gives students the best chance of receiving available financial aid, especially funds that may be limited, as well as providing ample time to resolve any issues, submit any additional documents, and prepare for college expenses.

“Augusta University’s Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships is the primary resource for students who need help completing the FAFSA or understanding their financial aid options,” said Kyle Parsons, assistant vice president of Student Financial Aid and Enrollment Management. “Asking for help is encouraged. Whether you’re a first-time freshman, a returning student, or a graduate or professional student, understanding your financial aid options is an important part of planning for your education. We are here to help!”

Students submitting the FAFSA can expect a similar user experience to the 2026-27 application with the exception that some applicants may have enhanced identity verification procedures with increased fraud and identification review completed by the Department of Education.

Parsons advises applicants to be prepared. Preparation and knowledge will make filling out the FAFSA much easier, and students can start by accessing their studentaid.gov account, checking that any required parent or spouse has completed their section, and including Augusta University’s school code (001579).

A common misconception among students is that submitting the FAFSA is the final step in the financial aid process. Once aid has been processed, students should monitor their POUNCE accounts, take any additional steps necessary, accept or decline loans and check their email inbox for updates.

“We want students to explore all the resources available to help make their education affordable,” said Parsons. “Completing the FAFSA is an important step, even if you don’t think you’ll qualify for need-based aid.”

Students can email the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships for individual assistance or call 706-737-1524.
