Men’s hoops to host Young Harris in first round of PBC tourney Feb. 28

Jaguars host Mountain Lions Saturday night 7:00 p.m. Christenberry Fieldhouse

The GRU Augusta men’s basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Peach Belt Conference East Division and will host the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Saturday, Feb. 28 for the first round quarterfinals of the conference tournament in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

General admission tickets will be sold for $8.00. All youth, senior citizens (60+), military personnel, and faculty and staff will be admitted for $3.00. All children six and under are free of charge and all students from Peach Belt Conference institutions are free with a valid university ID. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.

GRU used a 19-point victory over the USC Aiken Pacers to win their 11th straight game on Feb. 25 and secure the rights to host the first round of the conference tourney as the one seed.

First round games are hosted by the highest seed on their respective campus.  Semifinals and Finals (both M & W) will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the men’s east division.

The Jags already faced YHC once this year on Jan. 19. The Jags were down by five at Young Harris and hit back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Keshun Sherrill in the final 20 seconds to steal a 67-65 Peach Belt Conference game on the road. Senior Devon Wright-Nelson led GRU with 20 points and eight rebounds. FULL RECAP.
