Literary Week comes to Georgia Regents University on Nov. 2

There’s no feeling in the world more peaceful than curling up with a good book on a chilly autumn morning. But don’t you wish that feeling could last a little longer? Like, say, an entire week?

Well, bibliophiles, you’re in luck.

This year, Georgia Regents University is hosting its very own Literary Week – a week of fun-filled, one-of-a-kind opportunities for writers and readers alike.

It all kicks off on Nov. 2 with the return of the Sand Hills Writers Series.

Nationally recognized writers Frank X Walker, the first African-American poet laureate of Kentucky, and Antonya Nelson, award-winning novelist and creative writing professor at the University of Houston, will join us for an afternoon of intellectual discussion and literary introspection in the JSAC Coffeehouse.

Following the Writers Series, GRU will host the Georgia Center for the Book’s 14th semiannual Georgia Literary Festival.

On Nov. 6, a host of Georgia authors, novelists and writers will flock to ground where Ray Bradbury once stood to tell their stories, make new friends and generally do what storytellers do best – share their experiences. Over the course of the weekend, local authors Frank Yerby and Berry Fleming will be honored alongside “Tobacco Road” author Erskine Caldwell for their contributions to Georgia – and national – literature.

And finally, to round out Literary Week, there will be another “Write to Heal” session scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9 in the JSAC Skinner Meeting Room. To learn more about the Write to Heal program, click here.
