Learn more about Health Science research at the upcoming CURS Meet and Greet

Undergraduate students looking to participate in health sciences research will have an opportunity to meet some of the university’s most influential researchers during the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURS) Meet and Greet event on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Sponsored by CURS, the Georgia Cancer Center and the Graduate School, the Meet and Greet offers students an opportunity to meet and discuss research with a variety of Health Sciences faculty.

Melissa Knapp, Augusta University’s CURS coordinator, said the Meet and Greet is intended not only to help students find exciting new research opportunities, but also to help faculty to share their expertise and interests with students who may not have been exposed to health sciences research opportunities previously.

“We’re really targeting Science/Medical majors who might not know how to get started with research faculty but who would like to participate,” Knapp said. “It’s a casual environment where the students will be encouraged to introduce themselves to the faculty and find out which, if any, of the labs they might want to work with.”

Faculty attending include:

  • Nagy Adel Youssef, associate professor of Psychiatry and Health Behavior
  • Ha Won Kim, assistant professor of Medicine
  • Pam Shiao, associate dean for Nursing Research
  • Daitoku Sakamuro, associate professor of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology
  • Eric Belin de Chantemele, assistant professor of Cardiovascular Physiology
  • Yen-Hao Chen, assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility & Genetics
  • Andrew Balas and Nadine Mansour, representing the Biomedical Research Innovation Laboratory
  • A representative of Dr. Gina Besenyi, director of the Physical Activity Research in Community Settings (PARCS) Laboratory

The CURS Meet and Greet will begin at 3 p.m. in Greenblatt Library (AB 108). Refreshments will be served. Students are encouraged to bring an up-to-date resume or CV if applicable.
