The NCAA announced that the Augusta Jaguars women’s basketball team earned the eighth seed and will meet top-seeded Limestone in the NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by the Limestone Saints at the Timken Center in Gaffney, S.C., March 11-14.
Augusta (22-8) went 21-7 in the regular season and 14-5 in the Peach Belt Conference to earn a No. 7 spot in the final NCAA Southeast Region ranks. Via a live selection show on NCAA.com, PBC Co-Coach of the Year Nate Teymer and his team were selected as the eighth seed to claim the final spot to make the NCAA DII Tournament.
The Jaguars are making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance all time since the 1991-92 season and their first in the last eight seasons. Augusta prevailed to postseason play in 2002-03 and followed it with trips in 2003-04 and most recently 2007-08.
The team is 11-4 in their last 15 games this year and are averaging 71.6 points per game. Limestone earned the top seed and is 30-0 on the year.
Most recently, Augusta reached the Peach Belt Conference Semifinal game and fell to Columbus State 78-65. The Jags are of five PBC teams advancing to the NCAA Tourney with Lander (2), Columbus State (3), Clayton State (4), and Francis Marion (7) earning spots to the show.
The southeast region tournament champion advances to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight March 22-25 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
