On a night where spectators saw the Augusta University men’s basketball team knock off Peach Belt Conference foe Clayton State, nearly 2,000 stuffed animals were collected as part of the Stuff the Stadium event.

Spectators were encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game and throw them on the court after the Jaguar’s first successful basket of the game. Numerous AU fraternities and sororities turned out in force, as well as community members, to help make the event a success.

This is the third annual Stuff the Stadium, and all stuffed animals collected are distributed to various charities throughout the region. This year those charities included SafeHomes, the Ronald McDonald House, Copeland Elementary, the Boys and Girls Club, McBean Elementary School and Garden City Rescue Mission.

The first two years of the event, Augusta University collected around 2,000 stuffed animals; this year nearly doubled that total as they look to grow the event in years to come.
