Patients are often brought to Augusta University from surrounding areas because AU Health is a level-one trauma center for pediatrics and adults. This results in their loved ones having to travel long distances to be here. Often times, this means that lodging, personal care items and food are secondary to making sure they are here with their loved ones.
The VolunTEEN Board is hosting its annual ICU drive to collect donations that will assist these families so they can continue to focus on supporting their loved one. Recommended items include tea bags/coffee, granola bars, bottled water, tissue and travel size toothbrush/toothpaste.
Anyone interested in donating can drop items off in the labeled bins at the concierge desk at one of six locations:
- Children’s Hospital of Georgia Entrance
- West Entrance of Hospital – Entrance C
- South Entrance of the Hospital – Entrance A
- Professional Office Building
- Medical office Building
- Second floor desk – in front of D elevators
A list of recommended items can also be found at those locations. The drive will take place until Oct. 31, but donations are accepted year round. All collected items will be sorted and distributed in November, during the season of thanks.
