Outstanding Faculty Award for the College of Nursing

The Augusta area has been home to Shannon Broxton, DNP, all of her life. It’s only fitting that she found her professional home at Augusta University, too.

A Triple Jag, as well as program director for the Nursing Anesthesia Program, the interim chair for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Department and associate professor in the College of Nursing with a faculty appointment in The Graduate School, Broxton has been part of AU for the better part of 25 years.

“Being a triple alum (soon to be quadruple) has been a tremendous source of pride for me,” she said. “Augusta University is a part of me, and I am a part of Augusta University.”

“I am excited to give back to a university that has invested in me and am honored to be recognized by my colleagues.”

That pride extends to AU’s nursing anesthesia program and what it has become under her leadership.

“Nursing anesthesia is an incredibly rewarding field. I feel lucky to be one of 150 nursing anesthesia program leaders in the country,” Broxton said, “In addition, I lead Georgia’s first, oldest, largest and most equipped nursing anesthesia program. Now, it is an honor to also chair the department where the program is housed and shared with other incredible advanced practice degree opportunities.”

In addition to earning her fourth degree from AU in December 2025, Broxton has lofty goals for the Nursing Anesthesia Program. Next fall the program will accept 60 students per cohort, making it one of the larger CRNA programs in the country.

“As I move forward, I hope to continue to use my talents in many ways to support Augusta University’s mission and vision,” she added. “I am excited to give back to a university that has invested in me and am honored to be recognized by my colleagues.”
