In celebration of the Maxwell Theatre’s 50th Anniversary, the theater has chosen to fill this season with new events and special events from the past.
The latest concert, part of the Lyceum Series and brought to campus with the help of the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society, is the world-renowned Silkroad Ensemble, which will perform at the Maxwell Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on March 30.
The Silkroad Ensemble was created by cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998. It is composed of Grammy award-winning artists from the around the world who blend cultural musical traditions together to produce a unique new sound.
They last performed at the Maxwell in 2008.
“Attending a Silkroad Ensemble concert is an unforgettable experience,” said Kelly Thomas, director of the Maxwell Theatre. “One faculty member confided after the concert that it was one of the best concerts he had attended.”
Augusta University and East Georgia State College students are admitted free with a valid JagCard, but everyone must order a ticket to guarantee seating. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 706-667-4100.
For those wanting to learn more about the Silkroad Ensemble and the concert, a pre-event talk will be held in Room B-11 of the Fine Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited so come early.
