It’s spring in Augusta! With the warmer weather you might be thinking about sweet treats to cool you down. But, before you reach for that delicious milkshake, did you know that what you view as a harmless treat could be setting the stage for heart disease?
A new study by researchers at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University has found that having just one milkshake is enough to cause damage inside your blood vessels.
“Your red blood cells are normally nice and smooth and beautiful and the cells, after consumption of a high-fat meal, get these spikes on them,” writes Julia E. Brittain, PhD, vascular biologist at the MCG Vascular Biology Center and co-author of the study.
