Employee calendar update includes five-day winter break in 2021

Human Resources is pleased to announce a new five-day Winter Break in December for all benefits-eligible employees of Augusta University beginning with calendar year 2021.

Augusta University will begin designating all 12 official holidays, as provided under University System of Georgia Board of Regents policy, for the Winter Break. The previously available three “unscheduled holidays” for each year will be rolled into Winter Break for 2021 and moving forward.

The Holiday Schedule for Calendar Year 2021 will be as follows:

Please note that Human Resources will pre-load the 2021 Holiday Schedule into OneUSG Connect for your added convenience.

Managers over departments that cannot be closed on a holiday due to operational demands, such as Augusta University Police or those who are in patient care roles, are expected to schedule or maintain coverage to ensure adequate operations. Employees whose positions require that they work on a scheduled holiday will continue to be able to take the holiday at a later date. Managers and employees are expected to schedule this “deferred holiday” within 60 days of the holiday.

As a reminder, the remaining holidays for calendar year 2020 are:

  • Labor Day – Monday, Sept. 7
  • Thanksgiving – two days (Nov. 26-27)
  • Christmas Eve – Thursday, Dec. 24
  • Christmas Day – Friday, Dec. 25

Since the new Winter Break does not begin until calendar year 2021, departments will again have the option to have employees use unscheduled holidays and annual leave to plan for a longer closure in December 2020 in accordance with past practice.
