With the start of a new school year, Augusta University Police Department has some quick updates on ways to stay #JagSafe on your walks from parking around campus.

For students, faculty and staff working on the Health Sciences Campus, the university has examined the safest walking routes to help assist you in your walk from distant parking lots to campus.

“Safety is a shared responsibility,” said James Lyon, chief of the Augusta University Police Department. “We’re primarily responsible for safety and security law enforcement services to the university campus, but there’s also responsibility on the individual to help keep themselves safe.”

Chief Lyon also spoke on how the #JagSafe paths assist with the shared responsibility of safety.  Traveling the paths highlighted allows you to be more visible on campus. These paths are also in high volume areas allowing visibility to others. Anytime you can travel in a group or use the same travel routes, it is safer than walking between buildings, behind fences, in between parked vehicles, etc.

Paths from campus parking lots include:

  • Lot 61: Walk to Laney Walker Blvd and head west towards R.A. Dent using the sidewalk. Once at the intersection of R.A. Dent use the crosswalk to safely cross then use the sidewalk to your destination.
  • Lot 71: Walk to Augusta Ave and head west towards R.A. Dent using the sidewalk. Once at the intersection of R.A. Dent use the crosswalk to safely cross then use the sidewalk to your destination.
  • Lots 35, 36, 49, 50, 69, and 70: Walk to Laney Walker Blvd and head east towards 15th Once at the intersection of 15th Street use the crosswalk to cross then use the sidewalk to your destination.
