CommuniCon celebrates Augusta University’s Department of Communication

The Department of Communication is gearing up for its annual CommuniCon celebration event on Thursday, April 27 at the Grover C. Maxwell Theatre on the Summerville Campus.

The 2023 CommuniCon event, themed “Meet Your Communication Neighbors,” is sponsored by Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Department of Communication and the Undergraduate Student Government Association.

CommuniCon is a two-part, student-led event that celebrates communication students while highlighting the communication department.

Students in a public relations course taught by Assistant Professor Carrie Reif-Stice, PhD, were tasked with pitching a theme for 2023 CommuniCon. Faculty members from the communication department judged the pitches.

The public relations students have spent the semester planning the event.

“We really wanted this event to feel welcoming and inviting, so our theme had to match that vibe,” said Parker Ray, a public relations student at Augusta University. “That’s exactly what CommuniCon is about, bringing together our Augusta University neighborhood and celebrating our community and the communication department.”

During the day portion of CommuniCon, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., students will have the opportunity to engage with faculty, staff and students while learning about the communication department.

There will be a live band performance, an inflatable, free food, yard games, information tables and more. Students are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.

For the night portion of the event, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., communication students will be celebrated for their accomplishments. There will be an alumni panel, award ceremony, showcase of communication students’ projects and food. The night portion of CommuniCon is by invitation only.
