Carl T. Sanders building catches fire Tuesday night

A small fire occurred in the Carl T. Sanders Building, more commonly known as the CB Building, on the Health Sciences Campus late Tuesday evening.

The Augusta Fire Department arrived on the scene at 10:30 p.m. and said the roof and upper floor of the building caught fire. The building is located in the heart of the Health Sciences Campus on Laney-Walker Boulevard.

The AFD is still investigating the origin of the fire that caused limited damage to the building. Servpro was on site Tuesday evening immediately responding to the damage. No injuries were reported.

The opening of the CB Building for students and employees was delayed until 10 a.m. Wednesday to ensure the building was safe for normal operations. The building was deemed safe to occupy by the Augusta Fire Department, Augusta University’s environmental health and safety and facilities management.
