“My goal is to advance stroke related research and patient care. The diagnosis of a stroke is so life changing, and treatments are so time sensitive. There are still very few interventions after decades of research.”
“We saw that patients who live in rural areas were prone to have lower Apgar scores, lower rates of prenatal care and higher rates of preterm delivery,” says Bibiana Avella, MD.
“I came to appreciate and eventually love the remarkable science behind biology and medicine,” says Bangxing Hong, PhD.
“Our goal is for every Georgian – regardless of zip code – to have access to exceptional health care delivered by highly trained physicians," said AU President Russell T. Keen.
“We are expanding our fellowship from four to five fellows, which will expand our availability to help the population served by MCG,” says Jasmine E. Shell, MD.
During the spring semester, 20 AU students are enrolled in Service Learning in Tax and have completed IRS-required certifications.
Augusta University receives between 70 to 80 body donations every year and provides support for educational activities and interdisciplinary research throughout its colleges.
The College of Nursing hosted two days of community events, specifically providing healthcare to employees of Horizon and adults enrolled in the Healthy Grandparents Program.
Three Augusta University students are serving as Georgia Legislative Internship Program interns with the Georgia General Assembly.
“The mobile merchandise unit is student managed and operated providing students the unique opportunity to be part of a start-up environment," says Mike McAlister.
"This lecture will offer valuable insight for established researchers and clinicians, as well as the next generation of immunologists," says Klaus Ley, MD.
These programs are part of a broader effort to kindle interest in biomedical careers and give young learners authentic exposure to the techniques scientists rely on.

“Internships bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, which helps students build both their resumes and professional networks," says Amy Clemente.
“Do not allow anyone to talk you out of being a teacher. The blessings that you get are far greater than the challenges that you'll face," says Judi Wilson, EdD.
Augusta University's partnership with Georgia DNR collaboration lasted six weeks, and the finished illustrations will be used throughout the state.
"I left with a much better understanding of what it would be like to be a student at Augusta University and can really see myself there," says Kayley Appel.
"Getting students in early with research is the best way for them to understand what life in a research lab and an academic institution means,” says Evan Goldstein, PhD.
“The Hull Cup came about from meeting with several Columbia County business educators on how we can engage more of their business students,” says Mark Thompson, PhD.
"Events like STEMFest strengthen the bridge between education and industry,” says Danny Etheredge.
