Forecasts for the CSRA indicate the potential for extremely cold temperatures, 2 to 5 inches of snow and dangerous wind gusts this weekend. Protecting the safety of the Augusta University community remains the university’s top priority.

University leadership is continuing to assess conditions and will provide daily updates to students, faculty and staff regarding campus operations.

Due to the severity of the forecast, Augusta University will be closing the Jaguar Student Activities Center, both the Reese and Greenblatt libraries and the Campus Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 31. Classes and student support services scheduled for Saturday will be shifted to online.

Atrium Dining will be open for brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Students who need resources for assistance during these extremely cold days are asked to reach out directly to the Office of the Dean of Students.

Employees should prepare for the possibility of remote work if weather conditions require it, as communicated through official university channels. Please direct all questions to your supervisors.

Students and faculty with clinical responsibilities will receive additional information from their leadership. Those at regional clinical campuses should follow the guidance provided by their deans.

Any adjustments to Sunday operations will be communicated on Saturday.

What to expect:
  • Friday: Cooling temps, dipping below freezing at night.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Extremely cold temperatures, dangerous wind chills, wind gusts and between 2 to 5 inches of snow this weekend. As temperatures drop, mixed precipitation may occur, making roads and sidewalks slippery.
What can I do to stay safe?
  • Take extreme caution when outside; dress in layers with full coverage. Temperatures will be extremely low for this area and staying inside is advised.
  • Avoid travel on Saturday and Sunday if at all possible. If you must be on the road, use extreme caution.
  • Learn how to protect yourself from common cold-weather risks, including power outageshome heating firesworking outside and traveling by car,  as well as how to identify and prevent cold-weather injuries
What can I do to stay connected?
  • Stay connected with Augusta University’s official channels. Any changes to campus operations will be made through these platforms, including Augusta University’s homepage, Augusta University Alerts pageMyAugusta announcements and AU’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
  • Ensure you are signed up for JagAlert, AU’s automated alert system, to receive important announcements across campus, as well as RAVE Guardian to connect with Augusta University’s Police Department for both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Download the MyAugusta app from your app store and log in with your Augusta University single sign-on credentials for push notifications sent to your device. 
  • Adjustments to shuttle operations will be updated on the PassioGo website and the app.

  • Faculty and staff: Classes and operations as usual Saturday and Sunday. Prepare for the possibility of remote work if weather conditions require it, as communicated through official university channels. Please direct all questions to your supervisors.
  • Wellstar MCG, MCG and DCG clinicians and specialists: Follow the guidance provided by your supervisors.
