Augusta University’s annual tree lighting takes place Dec. 1

Mark your calendars for Augusta University’s annual tree lighting ceremony Dec. 1.

The event, a partnership between Augusta University and the Summerville Neighborhood Association, is a tradition that has been occurring on the Summerville Campus for more than twenty years.

“This event is a chance to come together and celebrate the start of the holiday season with other students, faculty and staff, including many from AU leadership,” said Ashley Kirkland, events coordinator at Augusta University.

This year’s festivities will be held on Dec. 1 starting at 6 p.m. in front of the Maxwell Theatre on Augusta University’s Summerville Campus. Admission is free to all AU faculty, staff and students, including local community members.

Festivities will include photos with Santa, caroling and crafts. Student volunteers will be able to help children write letters to Santa, make ornaments and do other crafts. Along with those activities, there will be refreshments and food trucks from Luna’s Pizza Co. and Sheila’s Baking Co.

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Open Paws Student Food Pantry.
