Laverne Lewis Gaskins, senior legal advisor in the Office of Legal Affairs at Augusta University, recently traveled to Vienna, Austria, to participate in a weeklong series of meetings at the United Nations as a representative of the America Bar Association.
This year, Gaskins was appointed by the president of the American Bar Association as one of its five representatives to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and while in Vienna, she participated in the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
“Specifically, representatives from over 40 countries, which, of course, included the United States along with several nongovernmental organizations, participated in the development of legal standards for an international online dispute resolution involving electronic commerce transactions,” Gaskins said.
During her individual conversations with many representatives from a variety of countries, Gaskins utilized the opportunity to promote Augusta University as one of the top-tiered institutions in the United States.
