Augusta University Health announces first-ever chief innovation officer

Mallary Myers, a national leader in clinical innovation, has been named vice president/chief innovation officer for Augusta University Health, effective Jan. 3.

In this role, Myers will be responsible for promoting a culture of innovation across the health system, including working closely with hospital leadership and AU Health Information Technology to nurture concepts to streamline overall health system strategies to improve patient care.

“As we continue looking for new ways to help our patients build healthier futures, we are dedicated to staying in touch with today’s cutting-edge technology and developing new ideas that will improve patient care,” said Katrina Keefer, executive vice president of health affairs at Augusta University and chief executive officer for Augusta University Health System. “Mallary is fully engaged in this ever-evolving arena of clinical care and her wealth of knowledge will accelerate the innovation efforts for our health system.”

Myers brings more than a decade of experience as a leader in clinical innovative solutions to AU Health. She most recently served as the system vice president of Operational Improvement and Innovation at Baptist Health, improving the provider and clinical user experience by implementing best practice documentation playbooks and increasing patient safety by automating and integrating technologies with the electronic medical record. She also led a collaborative effect to establish data governance and processes to use data to improve patient outcomes.

Myers is active with several professional organizations, such as the Alabama Board of Nursing Leadership Advisory Council, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Nursing Informatics Association.

She received her master’s degree from Aspen University and will complete her doctoral degree at Vanderbilt University in the spring.
