Jessye Norman is a Grammy Award winning opera singer, and she was born and raised in Augusta.

Today we launch a new series called “Where I’m From”—a joint production of GPB Augusta and the Greater Augusta Arts Council—profiling people who’ve built remarkable careers in the arts on a foundation that took its form in the neighborhoods and schools of Augusta. We caught up with Jessye Norman in the performance hall of the school that bears her name in downtown Augusta. She spoke with Brenda Durant, Executive Director of the Greater Augusta Arts Council.
