18 Computer and Cyber Sciences students receive Rattner Scholarships

Victor Rattner’s journey began at Augusta University’s legacy institution, Augusta College, where he pursued his bachelor’s degree in computer science. A diving accident left him a quadriplegic, but he powered through despite his challenges, maintaining a positive attitude and refusing to let his disability define him. He excelled in computer science and went on to graduate and also earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1994. He retired after a successful career in information technology.

His legacy lives on at the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences through a $2.4 million scholarship endowment, established by Rattner and his mother Lillian. The recipients are full-time SCCS students selected by the school. Recipient selection is based on merit and/or financial need, with preference given to students who have a physical disability.

The  Lillian P. & Victor Rattner Scholarship ceremony was held April 14 at the Georgia Cyber Center at Augusta University. Scholarships were awarded to 18 students. The scholarship covers expenses including tuition, course materials and room and board, allowing recipients to focus fully on their academic goals without the financial burden.

“We award these scholarships to our hard-working students who are focused on their progress in our rigorous programs. We’re very proud of your success,” said Alexander Schwarzmann, PhD, dean of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences. “We know our programs in computer and cyber sciences are very strong and our faculty are highly ranked. But this would be meaningless without the success of students like you.”

The scholarship is open to all SCCS students who meet the criteria, regardless of background, carrying forward Rattner’s legacy of resilience and opportunity for future generations.
