ASC earns International Tutor Training Program certification

The Academic Success Center is proud to announce the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) has approved and certified the Tutor Training program.

“We are very pleased that our tutors are receiving official recognition for their excellent work,” Academic Success Coordinator, Amanda Gustafson, said. “Students regularly tell us how much they appreciate the tutors. This certification provides public recognition of their skills.”

ASC tutors receive an initial ten hours of training on topics including communication skills, study skills, learning theory and ethics. Once they have completed 25 hours face to face tutoring with students in their content area, tutors earn the International Tutor Training Program Certification for Level 1.

“Throughout this process our tutors develop their professional skills too” said Dr. Lorraine Evans, “It’s a win-win; tutors are gaining workplace skills while our students are building their GPA!”

The Academic Success Center currently has over 50 tutors, providing free tutoring in variety of subjects including math, English, and the sciences. Students can drop-in to receive tutoring during ASC hours. View the tutoring schedules are available at the Academic Success Center page.
