Augusta baseball ranked 18 in nation; earn first national ranking in 11 years

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team is ranked No. 18 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America (NCBWA) national poll that was released on Tuesday afternoon.

The NCAA recognizes two national polls – the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America (NCBWA) National Poll and the Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division II Poll. Augusta is No. 18 on the NCBWA and No. 24 on Collegiate Baseball’s.

Riding an eight-game win streak, the Augusta Jaguars (27-11, 16-5 PBC) earned their first national ranking since the 2005 season. The Jaguars were ranked No. 4 in the nation at the beginning of 2005 after a solid 2004 season that saw them reach the NCAA Regional.

This week in the NCAA Southeast Region, Augusta also climbed from sixth to third place out of the top-10 teams.

In the most recent NCBWA poll, The Jags join Lander (11) and Columbus State (23) as the only three Peach Belt Conference schools on the list after USC Aiken dropped out of the top 25.

In the Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Div. II Poll, the Jags are one of four schools from the Peach Belt Conference ranked in the Collegiate Baseball poll, with Lander (11), USC Aiken (13), and Columbus State (26).

Augusta hosts a PBC series with Columbus State April 15-17 at Jaguar Field. The series begins Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Jaguar Field is located at the Augusta University athletics facility off of Wrightsboro Road – next to Christenberry Fieldhouse and the softball complex. For directions click here.
