AUGUSTA, Ga. – Children in the CSRA are breathing a little easier thanks to an informative week at camp.
Augusta University is sponsoring the fifth annual Augusta Area Asthma Day Camp July 11-15 at Camp Tanglewood in Columbia County. This event provides a fun, safe environment for children age 6-13 to learn more about asthma – an illness that continues to be one of the leading chronic disease among children nationwide.
Activities include asthma management sessions, swimming and hiking. Volunteer lifeguards, physicians and respiratory experts will be on hand to ensure illness or injury does not hinder the fun. However, a parent or guardian must attend a brief orientation and education session.
“It’s a great way for kids with asthma to relax and just enjoy being a kid,” said Kitty Hernlen, associate professor of respiratory therapy in the university’s College of Allied Health Sciences. “They have so much fun and so do we.”
The camp is co-sponsored by the W.G. Raoul Foundation and Clinton-Anderson Hospital, Inc. To register, contact Hernlen at 706-721-3554 or khernlen@augusta.edu.
