Women’s Health Clinic provides free screenings to farmworkers

Students at Augusta University will provide examinations, health screenings and bilingual information for patients at a free health clinic for female farmworkers.

Around 80 farmworkers of Costa Layman Nurseries in Trenton, South Carolina, will travel to Augusta for the 12th annual clinic, organized by the Augusta University College of Nursing. Attendees will receive screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes and breast cancer. They will also receive hearing, vision and dental assessments as well as flu shots. Referrals will also be given to attendees as needed. Attendees are provided a clothing closet and nutrition center with healthful food and information.

The clinic will begin 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in the interdisciplinary clinic of the Health Sciences building, 987 St. Sebastian Way.

In addition to the interdisciplinary efforts from Augusta University, volunteers will be present from other community groups, including St. Vincent De Paul Health Clinic and Laney Walker Public Health Department.
