With love from Salamanca to you, Augusta

Tuna Universitaria de Salamanca paid a visit to Augusta University on Thursday, Oct. 5 to serenade students, staff and faculty with traditional Spanish music. Comprised of student musicians, a “Tuna” celebrates Spanish and Portuguese musical tradition—a throwback to when university students would pay for food and boarding with money raised by playing music for crowds. Hailing from the University of Salamanca (founded in 1218), the Tuna Universitaria de Salamanca continues the oldest Tuna tradition in Spain. Because of this, residents of Salamanca (“Salamantinos”) refer to the Tuna as “la Viejecita” (“Little old woman”).

This event was hosted by Los Amigos Hispanos, Foreign Language Alliance for International Rapport (FLAIR) and the Department of English and Foreign Languages.
