Legendary soprano Jessye Norman was born and raised in Augusta, and from a foundation that took its form in the neighborhoods, schools and churches where she grew up, Jessye Norman forged a career that has spanned decades and traversed continents.

For our series, “Where I’m From”–a joint production of The Greater Augusta Arts Council and GPB-Augusta–Jessye Norman has been sharing the story of her journey and her passion for Arts Education with Brenda Durant, executive director of The Greater Augusta Arts Council. Today, Norman talks about the role she’s seen arts play in her world travels, and the mission of the school that bears her name.
