Update on academic calendar in the wake of Hurricane Helene

Augusta University Community,

The devastation we have experienced from Hurricane Helene is unprecedented, and our students, faculty, and staff remain our top priority. To keep you updated on our progress as we work to serve each of you, I am committed to providing updated and timely communications. I have received new information regarding requirements for course instruction that will allow us to make up instruction without changing our current academic calendar.

Please disregard the previous communication regarding a change in the academic calendar to accommodate for loss of instruction time. I have asked Provost Sullivan to work with deans and department chairs to help faculty address gaps in instruction in a way that puts the welfare of our students and our faculty at the forefront of our decisions.

My primary concern is for the well-being of you and your families, and I want to ensure that you have all the support you need. As we plan our path forward, please know that as the situation evolves, you are my number one priority. I apologize for any confusion or angst the previous communication regarding the academic calendar may have caused you.

When you return to campus, individual professors will work with you to ensure that course material is covered adequately.

Thank you for your grace and understanding as we continue to navigate this situation.

You and your families continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Russell T. Keen
President, Augusta University
