Two new faculty researchers to join the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences

Dr. Paul Attie and Dr. Bogdan Chlebus have accepted positions as professors with the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences. Attie and Chlebus will join the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences faculty later this year.

Dr. Paul Attie

Attie received a bachelor’s degree in engineering science from Oxford University in 1981, a master’s degree in computer science from the University of London in 1982, and a doctorate in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. He has held faculty positions at Florida International University, Northeastern University and the American University of Beirut, where he is currently a professor of computer science. He was also a visiting scientist at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science. Attie’s research is in formal methods and the semantics of concurrent/distributed systems. He is particularly interested in devising efficient and scalable methods for the design and analysis of large distributed software systems. Attie’s research was funded by several grants from the U.S. Air Force and the National Science Foundation, including the prestigious NSF Career Award.

Dr. Bogdan Chlebus

Chlebus comes to Augusta University from the University of Colorado Denver, where he is a professor of computer science. He obtained master’s and doctorate degrees in Computer Science from the University of Warsaw, Poland. Chlebus has held faculty positions at the Institute for Informatics (Poland) and the University of Denver Colorado and held visiting faculty appointments with the University of California Riverside, the Heinz Nixdorf Institut in Germany and the University of Liverpool. His research has recently focused on communication algorithms and theory of distributed computing. Chlebus is an author of over 100 technical articles and his research was funded by several grants, including two grants from the National Science Foundation.

“I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Attie and Dr. Chlebus to Augusta University,” says School of Computer and Cyber Sciences Dean Dr. Alex Schwarzmann. “They are world-class researchers and educators. This is only the beginning of continued growth and an exciting future for the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences and Augusta University.”
