Traffic, shuttle service changes for Summerville Campus Feb. 9-11

Augusta University’s Summerville Campus will see a significant shift in traffic the week of Feb. 9-11, to accommodate large equipment being used to plant two new trees near the main entrance off Walton Way.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, barricades will be placed to close off the main entrance to the Summerville Campus, as well as Taylor Street from University Hall to the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. The barricades will remain in place for all of Tuesday, Feb. 10, and be removed once work is completed in the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Traffic along Walton Way will be minimally affected as the equipment and trees are moved onto campus.

Faculty, staff, students and visitors are encouraged to enter campus utilizing either Katherine Street on the east end of campus or Arsenal Avenue on the west end. As a reminder, both streets are right-turn-only on Walton Way. Drivers wishing to turn left (westbound) onto Walton Way, will need to access the traffic lights via either Johns Street via Pickens Road from Katherine, or Monte Sano via Bellevue Avenue off Arsenal.

The University Hall shuttle stop will be relocated to Allgood Hall during the entrance closure. The AU Parking Services team will update PassioGo with the stop change and place signage at both University and Allgood halls with the updates.

Additionally, the walking path that runs parallel to both Taylor Street and Walton Way will also be closed off. Visitors will be able to utilize the sidewalks that run behind the Maxwell Theatre and Washington Hall, as well as those through the Grove at the center of campus.

The trees, which will be located next to the main entrance off Walton Way and in front of the Maxwell Theatre, will replace two trees lost in recent years, including due to Hurricane Helene.
