Ten Talks series continues with “What is going on at Augusta University?”

In a recent survey, 68 percent of Augusta University students said they wanted to know more about the fine (and sometimes incredibly stressful) art of adulting. More than 40 percent said they wanted to know about current events. Another 60 percent wanted more information about social media and career connections.

In response, the university’s First and Second Year Experiences team developed the “Ten Talks: The Essentials” series.

With conversations ranging from “how do I better manage my money” to “what should I look for when buying a car,” students have so far been treated to five talks—each of which took place in the university’s Academic Success Center (ASC).

Dr. Craig Albert, associate professor of Political Science, hosted the 5^th talk, “What is happening in our country?”

As part of his discussion, Albert said he gave his input about why Donald Trump won the presidency and what students could look forward to in the future of American politics. He also discussed his concerns about identity politics, how they can be dangerous for a democracy, and what role the media currently plays in politics.

“I think it was super lit,” Albert said. “It was informal, which was great once I got started, and it was a cool opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas with students outside the classroom.”

Future Ten Talks events include information about summer internship research, graduate school planning, and what’s happening at the university.

The next Ten Talks event takes place Thursday, Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Academic Success Center, located in University Hall.
