‘The Life of the Mind’ showcases Pamplin research, scholarship, and creative activity

Dr. Robert Foster and Dr. Melissa Bemiller are set to present during the first of four “The Life of the Mind” lectures on Monday, Sept. 18 from 1-2:15 p.m. in the JSAC coffee house.

Hosted by the Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, “The Life of the Mind” is a showcase for the breadth and depth of research, scholarship, and creative activity of Pamplin’s faculty. Faculty are chosen to present by their peers on the Pamplin Faculty Research and Development Committee. Chosen faculty members will present their work for 15 minutes before opening the floor to audience questions.

Dr. Martha Ginn, assistant dean, said the lecture series was beneficial not only to presenters, but to potential collaborators as well.

“We feel this is an important opportunity to highlight the contributions our faculty are making to their respective fields and to start meaningful conversations about collaborative opportunities,” she said. “Since our college is so diverse, this series provides a greater understanding and appreciation of the types of research, scholarship, and creative activities that occur in various disciplines.”

Dr. Robert Foster, professor of music, will present “Sound and Vision: The Inspiration of Rothko.” Dr. Melissa Bemiller, assistant professor, will present “The Homicide of Transgender People in the U.S.: A Descriptive (Baseline) Study.
