Student Health Services: Extended hours, free care, wellness events

To increase access to care, Augusta University’s Student Health Services will offer extended operating hours during the spring semester. The clinic will now be open:

  • Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Located on the Health Sciences Campus, the clinic offers a variety of free services to support the physical and mental well-being of all AU students, including primary, acute and preventive care. Appointments can be made by calling 706-721-3448.

“Acute care appointments can be any kind of respiratory or gastrointestinal illness, headaches, allergies, urinary complications or injuries,” said Shelli Larkin, DNP, director of Student Health Services. “Primary care can range from orthopedic problems to diabetes to chronic illness to immunizations, while preventive services include physical examinations, gynecological examinations, birth control and STI testing.”

Students can also take advantage of the Get Yourself Tested clinic, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., for testing services like HIV, trichomoniasis, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. While students do not need health insurance to access care, some lab services may require payment, which can be covered through the optional Augusta University Student Health Insurance Plan.

“If you’re unsure about how to access services, call for a triage appointment,” said Larkin. “Let our providers and nurses speak with you in regard to what you may or may not need. Our staff, with their expertise and guidance, can walk you through your symptoms and walk you down the pathway to your best health care.”

Throughout the spring semester, students can stay healthy by scheduling a free flu immunization or attending the Health and Wellness Fair on March 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Summerville Campus. The fair will include over 30 campus partners and community organizations offering helpful tips and habits, T-shirts, food and giveaways.
