The speakers for Georgia Regents University’s 2015 Alumni Weekend have been announced.
The university’s Drs. Robert and Lois Ellison Lectureship program, will be held Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in the Lee Auditorium on the Health Sciences Campus. The featured speaker for this event is Dr. Samuel A. Wickline, the J. Russell Hornsby Family Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Professor of Medicine, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, and Cell Biology and Physiology at Washington University, who will share his research on “Nanotechnology in the management of heart disease, cancer, and arthritis.”
Festivities will continue on Saturday, April 25, at 5 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre on GRU’s Summerville Campus with the 3rd Annual Alumni Weekend Signature Event. The speakers for this program will be National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) legends Captain James Lovell and Gene Kranz who both helped land the legendary Apollo 13 after an oxygen tank crippled the spacecraft during flight. The event will also serve to recognize the university’s presidential alumni award winners.
On Sunday, April 26, at 11:30a.m. at Legends Club in Augusta, Georgia, world-renowned journalist and GRU alumna Nita Wiggins will serve as the keynote speaker for the Alumni Weekend Farewell Brunch.
In her presentation, “From Augusta, Georgia to Paris, France – my believable successes in journalism,” Wiggins will share her journey to becoming a barrier-breaking sportscaster as well as her views on other topics including the role of women in the American sports industry and the changing landscapes of American politics and society. This year’s Jag20 recipients will also be announced during this program.
